Adobe Terms of Service - June 2024 | FACTS NOT CLICKBAIT
Просмотров 11 тыс.14 дней назад
Adobe recently updated their Terms of Service, however how this was done and the wording used did cause quite a strong reaction across the internet. Some people took to posting videos with Clickbait Titles that served only to incite anger and unneccesarily spread worry across the creative community … and ultimately result in them gaining large view counts. ⛓ 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐊𝐒 𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍 𝐕𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐎: bit.ly/ado...

    Well done mate. A little off topic, but related: there are other photography post-processing software out there that could also use a simplified rewrite also. Never lost faith in you. Keep on…👍🏽

    I think your video and adobe does cover a lot of the controversy. The only thing I think that is still lagging is going through personal photos that are deemed inappropriate. I know Apple did this too. I don’t believe software companies need to get into the business of policing content. While I understand they have to protect themselves from being sued. Dare I say the name. I think Tony made a follow up video to latest terms and still covers this concern. I will read through the latest update again to see if this has been addressed but it still sounds like they are searching photos for illegal content when accessed by the cloud. Which does take away the privacy between a photographer and a client. Personally the type of photography I do for a living. I have no choice but use adobe photoshop. They are the only game in town with commercial and architectural photography. I think anything that is portrait photography I will look for another software platform to use or until at least I felt like my clients privacy isn’t being invaded because a photo was flagged inappropriate by an AI. I am honestly already over all this AI stuff it’s like a double edge sword.

  • @gearadventures

    I don’t know Tony makes a great case. In the United states we enjoy our freedom and are programmed a little different . I guess the question is. Does the user agreement give adobe the right to look at your personal photos? I believe you should make a video how he is wrong. Like read through the agreement and say. Well in this section this actually means they have no right to look at your personal photos or they have no right to use any of your photos. I look forward to seeing your rebuttal.

While I do not aspire to be anywhere near the amazing and meticulous artist he is, he makes me feel that I could become a painter with Photoshop and have lots of fun with it. I could learn so much from Bert; and when I have more time to invest in hobbies, I'm feeling inspired to really jump into Photoshop.

    This is cracking brilliant! One more suggestion, if I might: not everyone knows what to do with their hands. Sometimes, it's helpful to let them hold something, especially if it doesn't detract from the image you're trying to capture. This can work really well if that "something" has meaning to them. It can help them relax and feel less self-conscious.

    An image file with ProPhoto rgb profile will not keep this profile when its sent to a pro Fuji photographic printer FYI. the profile is automaticly coverted to adobe srgb and will not look the same, best to covert these files before sending off to get professional prints .

    very interesting, thank you! do you know if this works also with a windows PC? I got the new nanotextured 11" iPad Pro which displays all images (tethered to a Sony a7 IV as well as after developing the RAWs on the Windows PC) with less warm colors, skin tones look grey. It didn't disappear after turning reference mode on so probably I should calibrite it but have no MacBook.

    Some great info in this video, however, your clickbait title almost made me not watch this video. The fact that you can use a modifier instead of the menu is a great tip, but it's not a hidden feature. it has also not much to do with what designers and photo editors use PS for. I would suggest you shy away from those click bait titles to distinguish yourself from the less professional Lightroom RUclipsrs. Just my 5 cents

    @glyndewis (This is a reply in a conversation that started on Glyn's 30 second short on this subject. I think the more thoughtful conversation is here, so I'm cross-posting it.) @glyndewis OK. So I have now watched your longer video and read the TOS. I would never sign that TOS other than under duress. I did sign it. Under duress. Which is why nobody reads them. What good would it do? Which brings us to why I think you are misunderstanding the situation. Adobe didn't do anything in the TOS that they and many other software developers hadn't done and gotten away with thousands of times before. Adobe, tone deaf to the customers and utterly arrogant as they are, chose to rub our noses in it. THAT was their mistake. The sign-now-or-never-open-your-work-again extortion was simply a step too far. And really bad judgment. The statements and blog post gaslighting the customers, and claiming that the contract didn't say what it clearly did say were really bad judgment. The day before Adobe released their new TOS (and you released your defense of them), the US Department of Justice sued Adobe to stop abusive treatment of customers in a cancellation slamming scheme. And Adobe issued a defensive word salad that made themselves look even worse, if that was possible. Bad judgment. Every disgruntled user I've talked to seems to have their own unique set of reasons why they're fed up with Adobe. Most of which long predate this month's fiascos. This has been brewing for a long time. This spasm has simply pushed many of us (including me) from merely talking about abandoning Adobe to doing something about it. Then there's Northrup. I'm not what you would call a fan. I have called him out harshly for saying boneheaded stuff. But I certainly respect his skills as a RUclipsr. (And you would be wise to, as well.) While I could quibble with his Makita analogy, I think his point - which is that no company in a competitive space would try this kind of nonsense - is pretty apt. And now he's shown how Adobe's anti-child sexual abuse filter can be triggered with an obviously innocent image! Which forces the question of whether or not it was good judgment on Adobe's part to implement that program in the first place. I think not. Adobe didn't just suddenly get hit with a Bad Judment Ray From Outer Space. They have and have had some serious culture problems. (Which feed the industry gossip mill, as well as -in my opinion - degrade their products.) When I was an apperatchik of a company with thousands of seats of Adobe licenses, I used to love dealing with them. They were great back then. If I was in a position to be a friend to Adobe today, I would call my contact and read them the riot act. If you're Adobe's friend, I would suggest that you do the same.

    Ok think of this circumstance. I am a doctor doing a research project on skin disorders. I have photographs of Patients that I have prepared in PS. These MUST remain private and I have a legal obligation to make this so. It should not be possible for these images to be seen by anyone at Adobe for any reason. This agreement dose allow images to be seen by Adobe personal.

I remember doing his first ever course that was in the very early days of Mac OS X so must have been around 20 years back. I’ve learnt so many of my Photoshop skills from Bert he’s an excellent teacher and fantastic artist. He would have carried on all night if you’d have let him. Hope you get him back, younger viewers definitely need to see more from this man.

    Thank you Glyn for introducing Bert to me and his speechless work. Yes, I am one of those that had no idea of his work. He is completely in the same category, even in the same position at the top, with past masters, Da Vinci, VG, etc, of modern artistry. He is a man of character, and genuine influence. ❤ Another thing that I take away from him, is being meticulous. Throughout my life, people, and even family, would mention/complain how I was that way in my work, or day to day. I feel better about myself, though, not that I really allowed others to influence that. Yet, I can say with a smile on my face, he takes meticulous, to another level. Kudos

    First i have to say her photos are remarkable. Cameras have been a part of my life from my early teens to the present at 67 years of age. The only time that my photos were taken straight out of camera was the days of film, i didn't have a darkroom, my darkroom was the local grocery store that had a Kodak mailer. I would wait till my 5x7inch prints would return. I did not take photography seriously during this period and their was no post processing, i changed to digital photography 16 years ago when 6 and 10.mp camera bodies were the norm shooting three frames per second. I was just learning how to use a computer at the time and I wanted to print my own photos so I had to learn how to use a computer, digital cameras and printing all at the same time, i had to try to also learn camera skills like exposure,lighting, composition shooting in different times of day and environments. I had to prioritize what was most important to my digital photography experience. Because my early cameras had a small buffer and the frames per second were 3, i used the highest quality jpeg files that the camera afforded me and i set my camera to give me the most natural picture files, my first DSLR was a Pentax K100D super followed by several different Pentax cameras. The JPEG files tend to be rather flat so even though I was photographing in JPEG files I still did basic post processing and i learned that no matter what files you are using RAW or JPEG post processing should be part of your digital skill set. By using JPEG files i could shoot more photos in sports and wildlife before my camera would shut down and take time to send the files to the memory card. When I first started digital photography I had no idea how different memory cards worked so not until years later I realized that the cards I was using were on the slow side. As i said I had a lot to learn. I focused on camera basics and what it took to create compelling photos, i also put printing above shooting and processing raw files. Going back to my film days my photos had no post processing before printing and my Jpeg files post processed and printed on my Canon Pixma pro printer are 100 times better than anything I ever took with film. Today I have a wide variety of cameras and glass from Pentax, Olympus, Fujifilm, Nikon, Panasonic, one Sony and a Canon, covering full frame, APSC and micro 4/3. I started photographing landscapes/seascapes, wildlife-birds, travel and many other subjects. This led me to photographing events from weddings baptisms, family photos and sports all with out taking one raw file photo. I have to be more mindful of my camera settings but the people that I worked for were always happy with the end result.

    Very helpful video, answered a puzzle I had. I purchased a Canon PRO-300 about 6 months ago, my first pro-level photo printer. From the start, I was using the Canon PPL plug-in for LrC to do my printing. In general, I was getting good results. But as part of a digital printing workshop I'm taking now, I decided to try printing an image using both the Canon plug-in, and the LR Print module. Well, the results were drastically different, with the print direct out of LR way inferior to the print using the Canon plug-in. And I double checked all my settings to make sure I was doing the exact same thing with each print method. I'd like to understand better why the discrepancy, but this video reassures me that it isn't anything I was doing wrong. Going forward, I will be sticking with the Canon plug-in for all my prints!

Could you show us an impossible hair subject and how you would use AI or other programs to fix them on a TEXTURE...Yes a texture....many of the images I shoot of horses have gates and fences...and I want them OUT...and want to pick a nice background. Also...show us how they stand and on what...thanks..I 'll be looking for your video...Hope this gives you a great challenge!!!!

      Well we'll have to agree to disagree on that one; the revised wording explains why. Plus ... you own the Makita ... you license the software.

  • @garyrowe58

    So, could you just explain why you say Tony is 'wrong'? Adobe have said they may transfer questionable pictures to a human for review, so they have given themselves the right to have a human look at your images, and i dont agree to any unknown person having access to my images of my family.

    Hi Glyn, Thank you so much for this video. It made understand better the colour space options for monitors. i still have one question, is rather better to invest in a monitor with +95% DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB coverage? or 100% sRGB is well satisfactory for a beginner photographer ? (I am thinking on the long run) Thanks

    • @glyndewis
      @glyndewis 5 дней назад

      Withg regards to the monitors and 95%+ Adobe RGB, that certaibnly in the case of BenQ is said as they cannot guarantee that a mass production monitor will always be 100% Adobe RGB. They'll be very close but best to cautious and say 95%+ Adobe RGB and 100% sRGB. I wouldn't be guided by just seeing 100% sRGB If you want top speak more about this just drop me an email or contact through website 👍🏻

    Completly wrong. Really? That´s it? You are not making a point. As far as I can tell, he is completly right - unless Adobe can proof otherwise.

    • @glyndewis
      @glyndewis 5 дней назад

      Then there is no point me trying to explain otherwise if you've made your mind up. I"m guessing you follow Tony and you hate Adobe. Notihng I say, nothing they say will change your mind. Just a small pointer though ... you 'own' the makita when you pay for it ... you are licensing the software and don't 'own' it ... that's quite a difference which is why this analogy by Tony is completely wrong.

    • @droneview-Berlin
      @droneview-Berlin 5 дней назад

      @@glyndewis The difference of owning or using a license is not even the point. It is how Adobe handles privacy. Just saying one is wrong but failing in having any points as an explanation is not convincing. And I do use Adobe but dont like their approach. Anyway, anybody does what he/she thinks is best - but that short was just a bit too simple - at least from my point of view. And I don not have any problems with the content I have seen from you in the past and appreciate the work.

    Stop riding on this guys back, do your own investigation . He as a duty to his 1.5 million subscribers to give them a heads up, he has written many books on Adobe products, have you? No thought not.

      This is Ione ‘back’ I wouldn’t want to ride on 🤣 1.5 million subscribers is a fantastic number … but sadly it looks like a lot of those he “has a duty” to aren’t watching his videos. They’re missing out. Oh as you mentioned books, you see that’s where you made your first mistake. I’ve written 4 books so far on Photoshop with 2 “Publishers” namely PeachPit Press and Rocky Nook; and they’ve been Best Sellers on Amazon. Cool huh 😃You’re right Tony has also written a few books as he mentioned in his video and what I love about this is that it shows ANYONE can get a book out there when self publishing. Tony’s publisher is Mason Press and is owned by Tony. How cool is it nowadays that you can write a book and not have to pitch it to a publishers to see if it’s a concept they would like to work with you on. Brilliant. Let me know if you’d like a signed copy of one of mine to add to your collection; I can tell my publishers 👍

    This is utter bs, but you probably get payed enough by Adobe to do their dirty work for them. Really disappointed by them and this video. AND pure clickbait and gaslighting, and you obviously know that.

      Ah yes … there’s that word again ‘Probably’; I’ve seen that a lot this past couple of weeks along with ‘might’ , ‘maybe’ and ‘possibly’. Did make me laugh that you mention gaslighting when that’s exactly what you’re doing in your comment. To quote Alanis Morrissette … “Isn’t it Ironic” 🤣
